In collaboration with Concord Adex Inc. Toronto and artist Maha Mustafa, this work explores the emotions we carry in relation to our surroundings. Two massive, curved steel plates—finished in striking red automotive paint—stand in dialogue, embodying the creative process and the idea that one state of being cannot exist without its counterpart. Executed by Feature Walters, Approaching Red is a landmark public artwork at Concord CityPlace. Installed beneath a sky bridge connecting two soaring towers, the piece achieves visual simplicity through an extraordinarily meticulous process. Shaping the steel’s complex conical curves required innovative thinking and precision, while achieving the flawless, high-gloss finish involved days of priming, sanding, and perfecting every detail. The result is a bold, dynamic presence— seen from the ground and the sky—capturing both artistic vision and technical excellence.
